Welcome!
I’m Jonathan – a 2x (soon to be 3x) Dad, happy husband, and proud Bitcoiner.
Let me start off by saying something controversial: I believe that EVERY parent should own bitcoin.
I know, I know…this is a big statement to just casually drop into your lap. So let me explain!
At the highest level, here is what I believe:
- if you don’t own bitcoin, life will get HARDER for your family
- by owning bitcoin, life gets EASIER for you and your family
Again, I know this is a bold thing to say. So let me break it down step by step how I arrived at this conclusion, and most importantly, why you should care.
No jargon, no technobabble, and no difficult-to-understand concepts
Unlike the majority of other bitcoin content out there that seems to be written for PhD’s in Economics, Wall Street day traders, or even technically savvy Engineers…
I write for fellow parents!
And that means, I simplify key concepts about bitcoin in a way that every parent will understand. No jargon, no technobabble, and no difficult to understand concepts.
Why am I doing this?
Owning bitcoin has changed my family’s financial future, for the better. And I’m not alone – I’ve see it happen over and over again for other parents too.
So as friends and family have asked for help understanding bitcoin, I decided to put my thoughts on paper to help them close the gap from “I’m curious” to “I just bought my first bitcoin”!
Who am I?
At this point, you are probably wondering who I am. And why you should spend your precious time reading this blog.
About me:
- I’m a Dad to two wonderful kids (~4 year old boy, 15 month old girl) with baby #3 on the way
- Previously, I worked at Coinbase, Compass, and other venture backed start ups in New York City
- I’ve run 12 marathons with a personal best pace of 7 minute 30 second per mile (comes out to 3 hour 14 minute finish time)
Related to bitcoin / investing:
- I have 15+ years of investing experience and have made money in the stock market, with rental properties, and through startups too
- I first bought bitcoin back in 2013 (10+ years ago)
- I’ve studied bitcoin for thousands of hours (and still continue studying and learning about it every single day)
- I’ve been paid in bitcoin (for doing a job), earned bitcoin (as a reward), and gifted bitcoin too
- As a long term investor, my family has personally experienced the benefits of owning bitcoin (ie. financially, our life is getting easier instead of harder)
Why should you care?
After thousands of hours of study (and as someone who thinks a lot about personal finance / investing), I’ve come to the conclusion that:
- bitcoin is the most important asset my family can own
- bitcoin is the safest investment my family can make (counter-intuitive, I know!)
- the best days for bitcoin are still ahead
However, right now, I know most parents believe the exact opposite of what I do. You see, I’m willing to bet you think bitcoin is some highly risky thing…more like gambling or degenerate YOLO day trading.
Luckily, that perception is RAPIDLY changing.
With that said, I’m glad you have an open mind to hear my take on bitcoin. As you read this blog, my hope is that you will come to see bitcoin for what it really is (ie. a boring long term savings tool) and how it can help your family (ie. makes life easier, at least financially).
How to get started?
I recommend starting with the Bitcoin for Parents series (link below), a 101 level overview that’ll help you have your first real “ah ha” moment about what bitcoin is and why you should care.
Of course, feel free to browse my latest posts too, like why I’m taking a mini-retirement, how bitcoin will give you back more of your precious time, or how bitcoin helps get rid of dog poop on the streets!
Along the way, if you have any questions, let me know. I’m here to help.
Happy reading!
